BNI Asset Management Funds Grow 15 Percent

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - BNI Asset Management (BNI AM) continues to record a 15 percent growth in assets under management (AUM) during the Covid-19 pandemic. The company's managed funds even remained in the top ten asset management companies as of October 2020.

BNI Deputy President Director Adi Sulistyowati stated that BNI AM could still maintain its position in the list of 10 asset management companies in Indonesia with managed funds as of October of Rp 24.64 trillion. "BNI AM has still recorded AUM growth of 15 percent since the beginning of 2020, inseparable from investor support and synergy with BNI as the parent and all subsidiaries that are members of the BNI group," he said in a virtual webinar entitled Market Outlook 2021 organized by BNI. President Director of BNI Asset Management Putut Endro Andanawarih assessed that the majority of investors are currently starting to enter investment instruments because many people are doing this. Most of them are also currently still saving their money on low-risk instruments such as deposits.

"Indeed, we as investors should be anticipating the future or having the courage to enter [into risky investment instruments]," he said on the same occasion.

Putut said the capital market is currently dominated by domestic retail investors who rose during the crisis. Thus, the prospect of market recovery could occur shortly.

On the other hand, investors are also advised to start putting their money into stock-based instruments even though the index is still in a corrected position. The way that investors can do this is to slowly increase their share ownership.

"We should have used constant weight asset allocation [type of investment], when we corrected stocks, we increased our share," he said.

In the future, he sees that it will be difficult to increase deposit interest rates due to the still low central bank interest rates. As a result, the growth of risky investment instruments is likely to occur more quickly.

“But, usually, the phenomenon is, when foreign investors enter [into stock investment instruments], only domestic investors enter, after that correction. And that is natural because they have taken profit," he said.
