JAKARTA | DutaIndonesia.com – PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. or BNI together with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) again providing financial education to the diaspora of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) who work in Tokyo and other industrial cities in Japan.

Taking the theme "Financially Capable Diaspora, Prosperous Diaspora", the education was held with the aim of equipping diaspora in carrying out mature financial planning, making good investments and not getting caught up in investments or illegal online loans which are very detrimental.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Japan Heri Akhmadi also expressed his appreciation to BNI and OJK for the initiative to organize online education.

"The presence of all our friends here shows our commitment to understanding smart and wise financial management issues. "My appreciation goes to OJK and BNI for the initiative to organize this event," said Heri.

According to Heri, this education from BNI provides valuable insights on managing income, managing finances and building stable savings for the future.

According to him, the diaspora must have mature financial planning and good financial investment, because this can support their welfare and that of their families, as well as have a positive impact on the national economy.

This was agreed upon by the Chief Executive of the Behavioral Supervisory of Financial Services Businesses, OJK Consumer Protection Education Friderica Widyasari Dewi or who is familiarly known as Kiki. He emphasized that the diaspora is one of the pillars of economic growth and also a lever for national economic productivity.

The presence of the diaspora has contributed to state revenues through remittances which are not only beneficial for the welfare of working families but also play an important role as a catalyst in increasing the country's foreign exchange.

"Therefore, we must all provide support to migrant workers and the Indonesian diaspora wherever they are to optimize their potential and also as agents of change in the country," said Kiki.

Kiki detailed, based on a Bank Indonesia report, Indonesian migrant workers contribute to the country's foreign exchange of USD 9.71 billion for 2022.

This amount increased 6 percent compared to the previous year which was recorded at USD9.16 billion. This contribution comes from the economic side, and also has a very significant impact on social development, upgrading human resource skills, technology transfer, and others.

Similarly, Director of Wholesale & International Banking BNI Silvano Rumantir also hopes that this education will provide adequate knowledge about financial and investment management for diaspora.

"The diaspora in Japan has a pretty good income, so education is important for them so they don't become easy targets for irresponsible parties," said Silvano. (gas).
