Examining the Prospects of Mutual Funds in 2024

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - BNI Asset Management or BNI AM observes that mutual fund investment in 2024 is still prospective, while still adjusting the investor's risk profile.

BNI Asset Management Investment Director Putut Endro Andanawarih said that the underlying global and domestic sentiment throughout 2024 was driven more by the potential for plans to ease monetary policy such as lowering interest rates which is expected to be earlier than before in 2024 due to a more controlled and measurable inflation rate.

"This could potentially reduce bond yields in the future. On the other hand, this could actually have a positive impact on the company's expansion and reduce interest costs in the future," said Putut to Liputan6.com, Tuesday (2/1/2023 ).

He continued, the political year 2024 is of concern to foreign investors for investment, where foreign investors prefer conducive and stable politics.

He said that mutual fund products that investors can pay attention to in 2024 are fixed income-based mutual funds that have medium to long duration to capture the opportunity for a decrease in bond yields due to a potential decrease in interest rates this year. For example, BNI AM Fixed Income Quality Long Duration mutual funds, as well as BNI AM Fixed Income Syariah Ardhani based on sukuk.

Meanwhile, mutual funds with a lower level of volatility are the BNI AM Short Duration Bond Index. Apart from that, there are money market mutual fund products for beginner investors and/or cash management such as BNI-AM Dana Likuid and BNI-AM Lancar Syariah.

"In share-based investment products, we see that there is potential for an increase in investment value due to the challenge of a still high level of risk from the global market. Both from geopolitical risks, fears of a recession and global economic slowdown which could affect demand for Indonesian exports, and the risk of the election year in 2024 ," he added.

As a result, BNI AM recommends investment portfolios with underlying shares with large capitalization that have good fundamentals, have relatively high dividend levels, and a high level of profitability above the industry average, including the BNI-AM SRI-KEHATI (ESG) mutual fund ), BNI-AM IDX High Dividend 20, and BNI-AM IDX30 Index (BNI30).

According to him, there are a number of risks both global and domestic that affect mutual funds. First, global risks, such as the risk of changes in the direction of world central bank monetary policy, especially the Fed's policy, the risk of a global economic slowdown or recession, and geopolitical risks in several regions of the world.

Second, domestic risk, namely political risk in 2024 which could change government policy in the future, the risk of a current account deficit due to global economic volatility or slowdown and whether Indonesia's economic growth expectations are in line with Bank Indonesia's expectations or target at the level of 4.75%-5.5 % on an annual basis for 2024.
