Jakarta - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. providing financial education to the Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) diaspora in Japan. The activity, which was held with the Financial Services Authority, had the theme 'Financially Capable Diaspora, Prosperous Diaspora'.
This education was held to equip diaspora in carrying out financial planning carefully and making good investments. The hope is that the diaspora will not be trapped in investments or illegal online loans which are very detrimental.

BNI Wholesale & International Banking Director Silvano Rumantir hopes that this educational activity can provide adequate knowledge about financial management and investment for the diaspora.

"The diaspora in Japan has a fairly good income, so education is important for them so they don't become easy targets for irresponsible parties," said Silvano in a written statement, Sunday (3/9/2023).

This educational activity which was held online also received appreciation from the Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Heri Akhmadi.

"The presence of all my friends here shows commitment in understanding smart and wise financial management issues. My appreciation goes to OJK and BNI for the initiative to organize this event," said Heri.

He considered education from BNI to provide valuable insights about managing income, managing finances, and building stable savings for the future. According to him, diaspora must have mature financial planning and good financial investment. Because this can support their welfare and that of their families, as well as have a positive impact on the national economy.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive for the Supervision of the Behavior of Financial Services Businesses, OJK Consumer Protection Education Friderica Widyasari Dewi emphasized that diaspora is one of the pillars of economic growth and also a lever for the productivity of the national economy.

This woman, who is familiarly called Kiki, said that the diaspora contributes to state revenues through remittances. This is not only beneficial for the welfare of workers' families, but also plays an important role as a catalyst in increasing the country's foreign exchange.

"Therefore, we all must provide support to migrant workers and the Indonesian diaspora wherever they are to optimize their potential and also act as agents of change within the country," he explained.

Based on a Bank Indonesia report, said Kiki, during 2022 Indonesian migrant workers contributed US$ 9.71 billion to the country's foreign exchange. This amount increased 6% compared to the previous year which was recorded at US$ 9.16 billion.

Contributions originating from the economic side also have a significant impact on social development, improving human resource skills, technology transfer, and so on.
